How the Ohio gas options differ

PUCO’s gas comparison site includes small-commercial categories organized by utility and rate class. A posted offer is a snapshot and must be confirmed with the supplier.

Match the commercial rate code on the bill before using a comparison chart. Ask whether aggregation or an existing supply agreement already covers the premises.

Enbridge Gas Ohio: Enbridge Ohio Energy Choice

Enbridge lists nonresidential Energy Choice Transportation Service separately from large-volume and daily transportation schedules. It also distinguishes Standard Service Offer, Standard Choice Offer and Monthly Retail Rate information. Use the benchmark that actually applies to the account; these labels are not interchangeable.

Cost scope: The account’s SSO/SCO/MRR alternative versus complete supplier charges. Operating question: Supplier participation, annual usage category and return or assignment terms.

Duke Energy Ohio: Duke Ohio commercial gas review

Duke’s Ohio gas tariff separates small general sales, firm transportation and other service categories. It is distinct from Duke’s Kentucky gas tariff and from either state’s electric service. Select the commercial gas class before comparing offers or using a shopping chart.

Cost scope: Utility gas-cost alternative, supplier charge and recurring account fees. Operating question: Supplier acceptance, utility enrollment and old-contract end conditions.

Columbia Gas of Ohio: Columbia Ohio choice and transportation

Columbia’s tariff distinguishes small-general transportation and full-requirements aggregation arrangements. Ohio’s shopping resource also separates residential and small-commercial classes. Determine which service category and supply obligation apply rather than transferring an Enbridge or Duke comparison to a Columbia meter.

Cost scope: Appropriate utility gas-cost benchmark, supplier fees and delivery exclusions. Operating question: Aggregation/pool acceptance, authorized volumes and supplier obligations.

CenterPoint Energy Ohio: CenterPoint Ohio commercial transportation

CenterPoint’s Ohio tariff defines large transportation service using Billing Ccf, with separate annual and maximum-daily usage conditions. Treat that stated program category separately from ordinary small-account choice, and confirm the billed unit and current tariff with the company.

Cost scope: Supplier gas and pool fees versus utility supply and delivery components. Operating question: Customer-submitted agency agreement, approved supplier and pool requirements.

City of Hamilton gas utility: City of Hamilton gas utility commercial service

Hamilton owns its gas utility and describes direct connections to Texas Gas Transmission and Texas Eastern Transmission. The city publishes its own gas service rules and fees. Those wholesale connections do not establish retail supplier choice for every Hamilton business.

Cost scope: City gas rate, supply adjustment and service fees. Operating question: Municipal gas service conditions and any qualified transportation request.

The Energy Cooperative / National Gas & Oil: The Energy Cooperative / National Gas & Oil commercial service

Newark’s municipal area vision study identifies National Gas & Oil Cooperative alongside Columbia Gas. The Energy Cooperative account requires its own service rules and commercial classification. Do not transfer Columbia’s supplier-choice enrollment rules to a cooperative meter.

Cost scope: Cooperative supply, service and any applicable adjustments. Operating question: Cooperative-specific service and alternate-supply conditions.

Territory and program exceptions to keep visible

Newark’s area vision study identifies both Columbia Gas and National Gas & Oil Cooperative. The cooperative’s own rules must be checked separately from Columbia’s regulated choice program. Newark source notes.

A practical Ohio account decision

Record term, fees, expiration and the supplier’s enrollment confirmation. Do not substitute a residential chart or stale offer for the contract available to the business.

Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.
