How the New Jersey gas options differ
NJBPU explains the separation of gas supply and delivery for commercial customers shopping for a third-party supplier. Supplier choice does not replace the distribution utility.
Verify the gas utility, current licensed supplier and account enrollment requirements. Electricity registration alone should not be taken as gas authorization.

The BPU’s commercial shopping guidance separates the regulated gas distributor from a licensed third-party supplier. Each gas company maintains its own tariff. Identify the Basic Gas Supply Service alternative and the supplier’s full terms for the same months; a license does not establish an accepted commercial offer.

Territory and program exceptions to keep visible
Elizabethtown Gas lists Edison in part, while PSE&G also lists Edison. The township name therefore cannot decide the gas company for a particular commercial address. Edison source notes.
Elizabethtown Gas’s tariff identifies Woodbridge and the Avenel, Colonia and Fords areas. Use the gas company from the meter’s bill rather than assuming PSE&G from electric service. Woodbridge source notes.
A practical New Jersey account decision
Compare the utility supply alternative over the same months, then review separate billing, fees and contract renewal terms. Ask which items a supplier’s fixed price excludes.
Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.
