How the Kentucky gas options differ

The Kentucky PSC publishes Columbia Customer Choice information. That named program should not be represented as universal choice across every Kentucky gas distributor.

Confirm whether the meter is on Columbia’s system and whether the business class can participate. For other systems, obtain the applicable transportation schedule directly.

Columbia Gas of Kentucky: Columbia Kentucky Customer Choice

Kentucky PSC publishes Columbia Customer Choice information. Columbia’s territory and class requirements matter: the program is not a statewide enrollment path for Atmos, Duke, LG&E, Delta or municipal accounts. Keep the bill’s Mcf units and its heat-content conversion visible when comparing a per-therm offer.

Atmos Energy Kentucky: Atmos Energy Kentucky commercial service

Atmos’ Kentucky tariff separates General Firm Sales Service G-1, interruptible sales, T-3/T-4 transportation and T-6 pooling. Its own eligibility and operating rules govern. Columbia Customer Choice is not an enrollment route for an Atmos account merely because both utilities operate in Kentucky.

Duke Energy Kentucky: Duke Energy Kentucky commercial service

Duke’s Kentucky gas tariff identifies its own communities and service categories. It is separate from Duke Ohio’s gas tariff and both states’ electric tariffs. A northern Kentucky business needs the Kentucky gas class and any applicable firm-transportation conditions before soliciting an alternative supply agreement.

Louisville Gas and Electric: LG&E commercial sales and firm transportation

LG&E’s gas tariff separates Firm Commercial Gas Service (CGS) from Firm Transportation (FT), and also lists transportation and pooling riders. The existence of FT is not automatic eligibility for a small commercial meter. Identify the class and whether the proposed pooling or balancing arrangement is available.

Cost scope: Gas Supply Clause under sales versus transportation, balancing and pooling items. Operating question: Firm capacity, pool responsibility and the applicable service agreement.

Henderson Municipal Gas: Henderson Municipal Gas commercial service

Henderson Municipal Gas serves the city, adjacent areas and Corydon. It says it purchases and schedules gas, establishes monthly rates and assists industry with pricing mechanisms. That is a utility-specific commercial discussion, distinct from Columbia Kentucky Customer Choice.

Cost scope: Local monthly gas schedule and industrial pricing terms if applicable. Operating question: HMG confirmation of the requested pricing or transportation arrangement.

City of Murray Natural Gas: City of Murray Natural Gas commercial service

Murray describes a city-owned gas system serving Murray and portions of Calloway and Graves counties, with transportation for the City of Hardin. It identifies Texas Gas and ANR pipeline connections. Transportation between systems is not proof that an individual commercial account can choose a supplier.

Cost scope: City commercial gas schedule and applicable supply costs. Operating question: Account-specific commercial options and utility acceptance.

Delta Natural Gas: Delta Natural Gas commercial service

Delta publishes Kentucky gas tariffs alongside, but separately from, Peoples’ Pennsylvania schedules. Its Kentucky tariff has sales and transportation arrangements. Use Delta’s effective company schedule and current qualification; a Pennsylvania Price to Compare or Columbia Kentucky Choice form is not the correct substitute.

Territory and program exceptions to keep visible

Henderson Municipal Gas says it purchases and schedules supply and establishes monthly rates. Its industrial pricing assistance is a local utility discussion, distinct from Columbia Customer Choice. Henderson source notes.

Paducah’s franchise action identifies Atmos as its natural-gas franchisee. Paducah Power’s electric service should not be used as evidence of a municipal gas procurement program. Paducah source notes.

A practical Kentucky account decision

Check supply units carefully: a price per Mcf cannot be compared directly with a price per therm. Use the bill’s heat-content factor and retain any fixed fees.

Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.
