How the New Mexico gas options differ

Use New Mexico Gas Company’s current service and tariff information for an account-specific review. This guide does not claim universal commercial retail gas choice in New Mexico.

Ask the actual distribution company for its transportation requirements, minimum-volume conditions if any, and required agreements. Do not infer eligibility from an industrial customer example.

Utility and commercial service map

This map covers the utility routes represented by our New Mexico city guides. It is not an exhaustive statewide utility or supplier roster. A community or county listing does not confirm an individual service address.

New Mexico Gas Company: NMGC transportation review

NMGC lists small-, medium- and large-volume general service separately from transportation. It also publishes a transportation customer process. A general-service customer should establish tariff qualification, supplier and operational responsibilities before comparing purchased gas with a commodity-only transportation offer.

Cost scope: Utility cost-of-gas component versus supplier gas, transport and imbalance costs. Operating question: Required transportation agreement, nominations and billing arrangements.

Zia Natural Gas: Zia Natural Gas commercial service

Zia’s rules distinguish its Lincoln County/Hobbs/Jal system from other operating areas and define transportation and emergency gas service. A Hobbs business needs its own Zia agreement and operating conditions. NMGC’s transportation process is not a substitute for the Zia tariff.

Cost scope: Purchased gas versus transport, imbalance and backup-supply costs. Operating question: Delivery point, transportation agreement and emergency supply responsibility.

Las Cruces Utilities: Las Cruces Utilities commercial service

Las Cruces operates a municipal gas system and publishes its natural-gas availability, taxes, fees and rate schedule on the city utility-rates page. A nearby NMGC transportation document or Zia gas agreement does not govern a Las Cruces Utilities account.

Cost scope: City gas rate, taxes and fees. Operating question: Current city gas schedule and any separate supply/service arrangement.

City of Las Vegas gas utility: City of Las Vegas gas utility commercial service

The City of Las Vegas operates a municipal gas division as part of its utilities department. Establish service and the applicable business rate with the city. Its municipal gas account is a different service arrangement from NMGC retail service or an NMGC transportation agreement.

Cost scope: Municipal service charges and gas-cost components. Operating question: Existing service, meter capacity and city terms for any proposed supply arrangement.

Territory and program exceptions to keep visible

Las Cruces operates municipal gas service and publishes its own natural-gas rate schedule. A nearby NMGC or Zia tariff is not automatically the correct benchmark for a city utility account. Las Cruces source notes.

Las Vegas operates its own municipal natural-gas division. A New Mexico Gas Company transportation application is not the default process for an account on the city system. Las Vegas source notes.

A practical New Mexico account decision

For a transportation proposal, identify scheduling, fuel retention and imbalance responsibility. Compare the resulting delivered service with the existing bundled arrangement.

Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.

A practical next step

Put the full contract in view.

Ask about your utility, supply terms or renewal. Keep account numbers and documents out of the initial inquiry.
