How the Michigan gas options differ
Michigan’s MPSC describes Gas Customer Choice involving licensed alternative gas suppliers. Utility transportation arrangements and customer-choice rules need to be distinguished.
Use the utility’s rate book and choice materials for the account’s class. A program offered by one gas utility does not establish availability at another.

DTE Gas: DTE Gas Cost Recovery or Gas Customer Choice
DTE’s business guidance distinguishes Gas Cost Recovery service from Gas Customer Choice. DTE’s gas territory differs from its electric territory, including gas service in western Michigan. Use the gas-company name and class on the bill rather than applying electricity choice restrictions to gas.

Consumers Energy: Consumers Energy business gas options
Consumers Energy publishes separate business natural-gas options and a gas rate book. Its electric coverage does not identify gas delivery. Small-account choice and larger transportation arrangements need the appropriate gas schedule, supplier participation and operational review.
Cost scope: Gas Cost Recovery alternative, supplier charges and any transport/capacity items. Operating question: Licensed supplier, utility program participation and volume obligations.

A practical Michigan account decision
Request the utility comparison component, return rules and any applicable capacity or reservation items. Keep the supplier commodity price separate from utility delivery obligations.
Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.
