How the Connecticut gas options differ

PURA describes firm transportation service for commercial and industrial customers and maintains approved gas marketer information. Its commercial program should not be confused with residential gas service.

Check the local distribution company’s active marketer list as well as PURA approval. Supplier authorization and willingness to quote this account are separate questions.

Utility and commercial service map

This map covers the utility routes represented by our Connecticut city guides. It is not an exhaustive statewide utility or supplier roster. A community or county listing does not confirm an individual service address.

Connecticut firm transportation — 3 represented gas companies

Represented companies: Southern Connecticut Gas; Yankee Gas / Eversource; Connecticut Natural Gas.

PURA describes firm transportation for commercial and industrial customers. The state’s approved gas-marketer information and the actual distribution company’s active enrollment requirements answer different questions. The town roster identifies the gas distributor separately from interstate transmission pipelines.

Cost scope: Marketer supply, utility transportation and any metering or data charges. Operating question: PURA approval, utility-active marketer and accepted start date.

Norwich Public Utilities: Norwich Public Utilities commercial service

Connecticut PURA lists Norwich under Norwich Public Utilities, while Groton and New London are under Yankee Gas. The municipal gas company has its own service and rates. PURA’s description of investor-owned utility marketer arrangements should not be applied to an NPU account without checking NPU’s terms.

Cost scope: Municipal gas service and supply components. Operating question: NPU commercial terms and any available supplier arrangement.

Territory and program exceptions to keep visible

PURA’s town roster distinguishes Norwich Public Utilities from the investor-owned gas companies. Groton and New London are listed under Yankee Gas, so those nearby guides are not the same enrollment path. Norwich source notes.

A practical Connecticut account decision

Get the transportation rate, marketer charges and any metering conditions in writing. Keep gas and electricity procurement records separate even when a utility brand supplies both.

Record the utility’s legal service company, commercial rate code, billed unit and supply arrangement in one account row. Keep a separate row for each meter even where a supplier offers one master agreement. Normalize gas units before entering rates; compare constant supply prices and fees only after the available service and cost scope are clear.

A practical next step

Put the full contract in view.

Ask about your utility, supply terms or renewal. Keep account numbers and documents out of the initial inquiry.
